Chocolate Malt Mocha Crunch Ice Cream
This Chocolate Malt Mocha Crunch Ice Cream is a luscious chocolate ice cream flavored with chocolate malt and coffee, with crunchy malt balls and a chocolate ganache swirl! No ice cream machine required.
Homemade ice cream seems like a total pain. Making the custard, tempering eggs, waiting for things to cool, hoping things don’t curdle…it gets too time consuming and stressful. Ice cream should be fun! What if I told you I made this ice cream from start to finish (excluding freezing time, of course) in about 10 minutes?
It’s true. If you have a mixer to whip cream and a way to melt chocolate, you’ve got a way to make ice cream. This recipe uses a base of sweetened condensed milk folded in with whipped cream. The result makes a luscious, creamy, soft ice cream that you won’t be able to stop eating.
Let’s make easy Chocolate Malt Mocha Crunch Ice Cream!
To make this malted and mochalicious, I added dark chocolate (keep it dark – the sweetened condensed milk adds enough sweetness!), chocolate malt powder, and some instant coffee. I dissolved the instant coffee in a little bit of hot heavy cream.
After you’ve made the base of the ice cream (so easy! so creamy!), fold in some chopped up malted milk balls. Be careful chopping them up – they have a tendency to roll everywhere. Then the ice cream gets layered into the pan, alternating with a drizzle of chocolate ganache. It’s good stuff.
After the ice cream is frozen, you’re left with an ice cream that stays soft and creamy, tastes incredible, has crunchy malt ball nuggets, and is swirled with creamy chocolate ganache. Texture and flavor parties are happening in your mouth when you eat them. Be like me and top it with chocolate sauce for extra delicious. Bonus points if you add whipped cream too.
It’s April guys! This is spring. That means it’s ice cream time. Enjoy!

- Total Time: 15 minutes
- Category: Ice Cream
Ingredients
For the ice cream
- 2 cups + 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- 1 (14 oz.) can sweetened condensed milk
- 3 oz. dark chocolate, melted
- ¼ cup chocolate malt powder
- 2 teaspoons instant coffee
- 1 cup malted milk balls, chopped
For the ganache
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
Instructions
For the ganache
- Combine chocolate chips and heavy cream in a microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, stir. Microwave in 15 second increments, stirring in between until smooth. Put into a small Ziploc bag to use for drizzling. Set aside while you prepare the ice cream.
For the ice cream
- In a small microwavable bowl, microwave 2 tablespoons of heavy cream for 30 seconds, or until hot to the touch. Add in the instant coffee and stir to dissolve. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Whip the heavy whipping cream to medium-soft peaks in a stand mixer. In a separate bowl, combine melted chocolate, chocolate malt powder, dissolved instant coffee, and sweetened condensed milk. Stir until ingredients are completely incorporated. Fold in whipped cream until completely combined. Fold in malted milk balls.
- Scoop a quarter of mixture into Tupperware container where you’ll be keeping the ice cream (I used a 9″x5″ loaf pan and it fit perfectly). Snip the corner of the Ziploc bag filled with chocolate mixture and drizzle over ice cream. Add another quarter of the ice cream mixture and repeat with chocolate drizzle until all ice cream and chocolate is added.
- Freeze for four hours or until firm before serving!
Um not only does this ice cream sound ridiculous with all that ganache and chocolate malt balls, it looks gorgeous too! Swirl game is on point. :) I’ve never made homemade ice cream so I am totally going to try this method. Pinned!
This makes me think of my husband right away, who loves malted shakes and malt cookies, etc. Your ice cream looks so good and it’s definitely time for some homemade ice cream right now. And oh, I love the ganache tucked in there! My fave.
Thanks so much, Monica! Doesn’t ganache just make everything better? I love the fudgy pockets it adds to this ice cream. So good.
Wow! Ten minutes has totally sold me! This looks fantastic!
I love this ice cream method! I actually have an ice cream maker, but I rarely use it since it’s such a hassle to make the ice cream base and such. I have got to give this method a try!
It’s seriously sooo much easier. I never mess with my ice cream making anymore because it’s such a pain in the butt. Thanks, Natalie!
Rachel, I’m whipping out my stretchy pants just for this ice cream! It looks DIVINE, especially with malt. Chocolate malts are my favorite and I love that you added the flavor to ice cream. Brilliant!
Thanks so much, Amy! It tastes like a giant coffee-flavored malt ball :) such good stuff!
Oh YUM! Coffee and chocolate and ice cream = all my favorites. I’ve been meaning to try making ice cream with sweetened condensed milk. I think it’s now going to happen this weekend! Thanks girl! XO
I LOVE how simple this is, Rachel! I got an ice cream maker for my birthday a couple of years ago, but have only used it twice because the process of making ice cream is so crazy time consuming. But this is totally doable… and chocolate malt mocha crunch?! Sounds heavenly. <3
Right?! The chilling and then churning process doesn’t fit well with my impatience. Thanks, Abby!
I haven’t made ice cream at home in so long!! This looks absolutely fantastic – that swirl is so pretty!
This looks so so great! Obsessed with the malted milk balls you threw in there :)
Oh my goodness Rachel! You said molt ball nuggets!! SOLD! This looks so fabulous and I absolutely love the feathering you did on the top of the ice cream. Gorgeous! I can always use more ice cream in my life and the fact that this is no churn is a nice break for the planning of a churned ice cream! Thank you Rachel!! Oh – Nice shot on the dripping chocolate! I wanna catch it with my finger! hehe! :D
Oh my, this looks amazing! I have a serious weakness for chocolate malt, and of course coffee and chocolate. The fact that it’s so easy to make has me sold on this one, Rachel! Pinned!
I can’t believe you made this without an ice cream machine!! This looks so creamy and delicious! I used to be on the vanilla ice cream side, but I’m slowly switching to chocolate and this just looks so good!
Thanks, Izzy!! It’s seriously so easy, and this ice cream isn’t overly chocolatey so it would be a good transition :)
I can’t agree more with the other comments: the ice cream simply looks gorgeous. And I’m all for flavors that don’t require an ice cream machine!
I made my first no-churn ice cream last year and loved it! I have an ice cream maker, but sometimes easy is just best. :) I love chocolate malt and this ice cream looks SO delicious! I love the chocolate swirls on top. :)
Thanks so much, Marcie!
Rachel, I’ve been looking for a malt ice cream for a while now and I’m definitely going to give this a try. It looks so easy and delicious!
Wow – that ice cream looks SO unbelievably delicious!! It’s super creamy and SO chocolaty!! Pinned :)
I rarely make ice cream, because you are right ! It takes so long! This method sounds so easy and ice cream looks delicious! Pinned to try it!
If it wasn’t so cold for ice creams… oh my :)
Yes! I have been looking for an ice cream recipe that doesn’t require an ice cream maker – this is perfect!!
It takes me ten minutes to figure out what ice cream I want to eat lol – love that this is so fast! Like, faster than my brain. Scary thoughts. I’m all for crunch in ice cream (best.idea.ever) and the chocolate malt combo is fantastic. Pinning!
This no churn ice-cream is incredible dear Rachel! Looks tempting inviting! Will sure give it a try ASAP! :)
Oh my gosh, this is GORGEOUS! Seriously, it looks like something you’d find in a fancy gelato shop! And it looks amazingly creamy, too. I want.
I still haven’t tried the no ice cream machine ice cream, but seriously need to. This looks amazing, and I love that I won’t need to go buy an ice cream machine to make it!
But malt is not gluten free, I thought. It’s generally made with barley.
Hi Alene, this is an older recipe from my site that is not gluten-free!
