Smoothie bowls and acai bowls have been some of my favorite breakfast treats since high school! San Diego is home to one of the first acai bowl cafes in North America, so I’ve been loving these sweet, creamy, fruity bowls for a while now. In the summertime, there’s nothing better than a creamy smoothie bowl loaded with delicious toppings.
To make a great smoothie bowl, you’ll need a great blender! I love my Vitamix Explorian and use it every day, for smoothie bowls and tons of other things. Use your tamper or scrape down the sides of your blender often, and don’t add too much liquid so your smoothie bowl is super thick and creamy!
How to Make a Smoothie Bowl
Smoothie bowls are easy to make, and they follow the same basic steps and have many common ingredients. Typically, the ingredients for most smoothie bowl recipes include frozen fruit, milk of choice, and banana (to thicken). Sometimes other items are used to thicken instead of banana, but it’s a common ingredient. Here’s an overview of how to make a smoothie bowl in 10 minutes or less:
- Blend frozen fruit and milk of choice. Add any additional mix-ins as well.

Ingredients
For the smoothie bowl
- 1 banana, frozen
- 1½ cups frozen strawberries
- ½ cup coconut milk or milk of choice
For the toppings
- Freeze Dried Strawberries + Bananas
- Fresh strawberries, sliced
- Fresh bananas, sliced
- Chia seeds
Instructions
- Combine frozen banana, frozen strawberries, and coconut milk in a blender (I used my Vitamix). Puree until completely smooth – the mixture should be thick. Add a touch more liquid if necessary to get it to blend completely smooth.
- Transfer to a bowl and add toppings as desired. Enjoy!
