Despite my many years of making homemade granola, I never get sick of it. Neither the process of making the granola, nor the product churned out of my kitchen ever gets old or tired.

The now-ritualistic process soothes me – measuring out the nuts and grains, adding a whole ton of warm spices, deciding which sweeteners to use and which add-ins I feel like that week. Even though I love to focus on the food around the holidays, it’s spending time with family that’s my favorite thing about these days. My sister has been staying with me these past few days, and last night my entire dad’s side of the family gathered to pick up my cousin from the airport after her first semester of college, and then descended upon my studio apartment for dinner.

Having the 15 of them packed on the couch, laying on my bed, and scouring the fridge for the leftover baked goods filled the space with such warmth and love. While food is the reason for gathering (and a definitely delicious perk), it’s the people that make the holidays so special.

We’ve had beautiful sunny weather pretty much every day since I moved back in June, but Tuesday was miserably grey and rainy all day long.

Eating pumpkin baked goods, making chili, and drinking lots of tea seemed like an appropriate way to spent the first real fall day. In all honestly, as much as I love and appreciate San Diego’s near constantly sunshine, I love a good rainy day and I’m not entirely dreading the start of the cooler seasons, as much as I love summer.
