Berry Tart with Brown Butter Shortbread Crust

Berry Tart with Brown Butter Shortbread Crust, decorated for the Fourth of July! | from Bakerita.comIt’s July! This is crazy. How has so much time passed?? I can’t believe things are already getting patriotic once again, and red, white and blue everything is already back covering my Pinboards. People are so darn creative with these things, I always have a hard time thinking of a recipe to throw into the ring! I’m so terrible about getting up holiday-relevant posts in time, but I worked extra hard to make sure that I got a Fourth of July post up for you guys. And it’s a GOOD one too.

This crust isn’t new to Bakerita.com, but it’s definitely a throwback to the early days. This Browned Butter Dulce De Leche Tart isn’t photographed the most beautifully, but it tastes amazing. This crust recipe (which actually used to be a cookie recipe when I first found it) makes everything it touches turn into gold…not really, but you know, close. It’s rich and buttery (as all things with brown butter are), and it stays wonderfully crunchy and flavorful under the whipped cream and berries. [Read more…]

Cranberry Crumb Bars | These easy bars are sweet, tart, and delicious! (From Bakerita.com)So, I know I’m a little bit late but…Happy New Years!!

I would have said that exactly 9 days ago, but unfortunately my New Year was rung in asleep in my bed (where I had been since 7:30 P.M., thank you very much), with the beginnings of a nasty bout with tonsillitis. It was a rough 8 days, and yesterday, when I was finally able to get out of the house (because I had literally not stepped foot out of the house in 8 days), I was exhausted by 11 A.M., took a two hour nap, and was still in bed at 8:30 P.M.

This recovery thing might take a while.

While I was sick, I couldn’t even do anything. Like at all. I watched TV occasionally, but even that got to be strenuous and I would get turn it off, roll over, and go to sleep so I was unconscious for my misery. [Read more…]

Gooey Turtle Bars

It’s crunch time! I have five more classes as a college freshman, one more test, 2 more essays, 2 more projects, and one final. It’s seriously weird that it’s almost over.

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was incredibly sick, wondering how in the world I would be able to choose a school to go to, and pretty much throwing a shot into the dark and coming to Washington. It’s weird how everything just falls into place. [Read more…]

Brown Sugar Shortbread

This recipe for Brown Sugar Shortbread makes a huge batch that can easily be divided into smaller batches, but no matter how many you make, you're left with a delicious, easy shortbread!Okay, so I know I’ve been MIA for a little while, but it’s not my fault! I’ve been super duper sick (still am, actually) so this isn’t going to be a long post, but I felt I needed to share something with you guys!

I found this recipe on the blog Lottie & Doof, which is written by Tim, an amazingly entertaining food blogger living in Chicago. I’ve yet to try a recipe from his site that I haven’t absolutely loved (my favorite Mac & Cheese recipe is also a Tim’s original). I recently had a huge shortbread cookie craving, so naturally, I visited Tim’s site to see if he had a recipe.

Homemade Samoas: Your Favorite Girl Scout Cookie Done in Your Kitchen

I’m officially a second-semester senior! It seems like this is the time that all high school students wait for – the semester that everyone talks about as being the funnest semester of one’s high school years. I mean, school is pretty much done! College applications are finished, mid-year grade reports have been sent in to all the schools, and class in general is pretty much winding down for us senior. Granted, I’m still in two Advanced Placement classes (European History and Economics, and I finished Government last semester for those of you interested) but all the other stresses of school have definitely been dwindling down.

Parmesan Rosemary Savory Shortbread Rounds

I made a beyond exciting discovery the other day when I was walking my dog. Right in front of house, like literally, right in front, is a giant bush. And guess what’s on the bush. GUESS. Really, guess.

Okay, I’ll tell you. It’s rosemary. Really, I had a huge bush of fresh rosemary at my disposal all this time and I never even realized it. Crazy, huh? So of course upon this realization the dog walk was forgotten and we headed right back inside to find some good rosemary recipes. I had always heard of a rosemary shortbread and it sounded so yummy, I knew it would be the first thing I had to make with my new rosemary discovery. So I found the perfect recipe, which I found on The Kitchen Sink but is originally derived from Bon Appetit Magazine.

Summer Berry Tart

Sorry for the lack of posting guys – I’ve been super busy working on college applications and doing all that super fun stuff for school. Jeez; senior year has barely started and I already have a bad case of senioritis (definition: when you’re just SO over school, you’re a senior, no one wants to work anymore!!). Feels a little early for this, but I’ll live. Anyways, I’ve been meaning to post this recipe for A WHILE but my aunt never seemed to be able to send me the pictures (they were on her camera), so it just never happened.
Meanwhile, you should make this tart while you still have the joy that is summer berries. I love them. Give me blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries and they’re gone in minutes. How my family managed to get an entire tart covered in my favorite fruits out of me, I’m not quite sure. But I’m glad they did, because it’s delicious.

I used a shortbread tart that’s blind baked and a white chocolate, vanilla bean pastry cream. Heavenly, yes. Hard to make? Definitely not. So break out your tart pan, let’s get cookin’.
