You'd never guess that this rich dessert is gluten-free, Paleo, and vegan. So, we’re a just few days from October and we’ve officially crossed the threshold into fall. How’s everyone feeling about it? I’m feeling…conflicted, as the change of season always does to me, especially in San Diego.

I forgot how disorienting the changing seasons are in San Diego, mostly because…the season’s don’t really change. It’s pretty much: really sunny, sunny, a little breezy, and back to sunny. It’s hard to get into a Fall/Winter mindset when the sun is still shining and it’s 80 degrees out, ya know? [Read more…]

These macaroons are baked low and slow and have a chocolate drizzle.I distinctly remember my first few introductions to the world of food blogging, and the first couple of blogs I ever read. I’ve mentioned before that my sister was a food blog reader before I was, and she turned me onto her favorite food blogs and got me hooked.

One of the first, if not the first food blog she ever showed to me, was Oh She Glows, written by Angela Liddon. I immediately loved and admired her site, filled with so many healthy, plant-based recipes and helpful healthy cooking and baking tips. Angela is a rockstar of the healthy food blogging world, and if you don’t already follow her, you definitely need to give a peek to Oh She Glows. [Read more…]

We’re officially post-Labor Day, so even though we haven’t reached the official end of summer quite yet, it feels like we’ve passed the unofficial conclusion of the sunny season. Even here in San Diego, though the days are still warm, a bit of that fall breeze in starting to roll in with a bite of chill in night air.

And even though I’m basking in every last bit of sunshine, I’m starting to get really excited about all that fall brings, specifically to the dessert table: apples, cinnamon, pumpkin, and lots and lots of chocolate! [Read more…]

But first: I have a little confession to make. Not to rain on the donut parade or anything….but donuts aren’t really my favorite thing.

They definitely used to be though. When I was a kid, I was a firm believer in junk food. My parents divorced when I was four, and let’s just say my dad didn’t exactly feed my sister and I the healthiest of foods, opting to buy us pretty much whatever we wanted from the grocery store. It usually ended with a lot of candy (like, two of those big Red Vines containers at a time) and Smart Ones frozen dinners. [Read more…]

These no bake Dried Cherry, Almond + Chocolate Chip Granola Bars are the perfect grab and go breakfast or snack. These flavor-packed granola bars are gluten free, refined sugar free, vegan, and topped with a dark chocolate drizzle! When I was a little one, I could not pronounce ‘granola bar’ for the life of me. I loved them and requested them often, but in my toddler gibberish, I was unable to ask for them, instead requesting “ganenah boats” – something my parents tried hard to decipher for a while before finally figuring out I was referring to granola bars from me pointing at them.

With my little kid speech impediments, it took me a few years before my pronunciation made sense to anyone outside of the family, but the granola bar love perpetuated through childhood. To be honest, though, I’d sort of fallen off the granola bar wagon. [Read more…]

I’m constantly making and trying new treats, and in addition to what you see, there’s a lot of things that don’t make the site because they’re not good enough. But even with all that does make it here to be shared, certain things tend to stand out.

Obviously, I have my favorites. And considering how damn hungry editing the photos of these macaroons made me? These chocolate chip macaroons are definitely a new favorite. I’m highly considering making another batch of them tonight, but I’m nervous I’ll definitely probably eat the whole batch, way too quickly, which would be highly reminiscent of these last few times I made these. This gluten-free, Paleo, and vegan dessert is incredibly rich and comes together quickly. This summer is truly flying by – how is already almost August?! Granted, I’ve been on the go for most of it. At the end of May, I moved from Seattle to San Diego via a week long road trip down the West Coast, closely followed by three weeks cruising around Europe. As if that wasn’t enough, this past weekend I went back up to Seattle to attend Pemberton music festival near Whistler in British Colombia with my friends.

While it was all so much fun and I’m not complaining for one second, since I got back from the music festival (which was amaaaaaazing) this past Monday, I have been so happy to sit my butt down on the couch, get caught up on work, and not move too much. I, for once, am happy to not have any trips in my immediate future. [Read more…]
