There’s something inherently comforting about food blogging, and the food blogging community. It’s a group of people – all completely dissimilar, coming from every country, background, religion, race, financial background – who all share one simple thing: the love of food.

While most Americans share that same love of food, food bloggers are the people who love to share that love. They are the people who want to share the flavors of their families, and their backgrounds, and the recipes they create in their kitchens, with the world. We, food bloggers, are some of the few people who will make our families suffer for a half hour as the tantalizing dish we made is ready to eat – but we need to photograph it to get the perfect picture to share with our readers. It’s a labor, but it’s also a labor of love, and with food blogging, if you don’t love what you do – it shows. [Read more...]

Caramel Coconut Chocolate Chunk Cookies

IMG_0899I’m home! Finally done with the fall semester, and back in San Diego (AKA the sun, which is so much less depressing than the constant Washington rain). Best part of being back? Clearly being back in my kitchen.

Sorry family and friends…love you guys.

But being back in my kitchen and being able to make Christmas cookies is amazing, and something I’m definitely not taking for granted. I was meaning to make these cookies at school, because they are a cookie full of my friend Mariah’s three favorite flavors – which she made me memorize – but time got away from me, and I decided to make them at home…where Mariah wouldn’t get any. Sorry. [Read more...]

Carmelitas

Why is it that family recipes just taste better than any others?

I think it’s the associations we make. It’s not just the fact that those bars are absolutely delicious, it’s that they’re served at Christmas, where everyone is happy and loving and having fun.

We associate our family recipes with good times, and that just makes them taste so much better. [Read more...]

Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls

Apples are arguably the best fall ingredient, held in stiff competition next to pumpkin. I, personally, don’t like to pick favorites. I give an equal shot to both pumpkin and apples and let them in each shine in their way the way only the season of fall let’s them do.

Each of them benefits from a good dash of cinnamon and nutmeg, and falls perfectly into the cocoon of freshly made pie dough. Yum.

Break me off a piece of that.

Erm, a slice of that? [Read more...]

Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispy Bars

These bars are one word: sinful. They’re truly almost too good and as someone who is famously fond of peanut butter and chocolate together and tends to eat spoonfuls of peanut butter topped with chocolate chips as a snack, these are my complete weakness.

The Baked cookbooks are hands down some of my favorites, and definitely some of the most used in my kitchen. Both are full of phenomenal recipes from the bakery that I’ve been itching to go to for years now. The fact that those Brooklyn Boys so kindly shared their recipes with poor Californian’s like me who can’t get to New York very easily makes me love them so much more. [Read more...]

Gooey Turtle Bars

It’s crunch time! I have five more classes as a college freshman, one more test, 2 more essays, 2 more projects, and one final. It’s seriously weird that it’s almost over.

I feel like it was just yesterday that I was incredibly sick, wondering how in the world I would be able to choose a school to go to, and pretty much throwing a shot into the dark and coming to Washington. It’s weird how everything just falls into place. [Read more...]
