Gooey mozzarella cheese and pesto are swirled throughout a light and fluffy yeast bread to make this Cheesy Pesto Swirl Bread you won't be able to get enough of! Put a slice in the toaster for a delicious snack. When I was a kid, I claimed my stomach had three compartments: one for bread, one for dessert, and one for the rest of the foods. Naturally, the bread and dessert compartments were the biggest.

As I’ve gotten older and pretty adept at creating tons of goodies to fill my two favorite compartments, certain things I make tempt me way more than others. As much as I bake sweet treats, my sweet tooth has gotten a lot smaller since I’m constantly surrounded by desserts. Usually, a bite of a brownie or cookie is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. So, I haven’t said it “out loud” on here yet…but as I have mentioned a few times on Bakerita already, I just graduated from college. I moved to Seattle…and I’m purposefully not looking for a job. As I struggled to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, I was presented with a couple of opportunities that inspired me to choose the less conventional path: working on Bakerita.

It’s sort of hard and scary to be intentionally not trying to find a job after graduating from college, but the temptation and draw of working for myself and doing what I love is inspiring me to take a risk, while I can. I’m beyond grateful to have family, friends, and you – my readers – to support me, because without anyone reading Bakerita, there’s no way I could do what I do. [Read more…]

These are the perfect snack or soup accompaniment.I’m not a procrastinator. Okay, that’s not true – I procrastinate a little bit, as does everyone, but generally, I’m definitely the kind of girl who gets it done ahead of time. Yet, somehow, I’m sitting here at 8:08 AM, writing a post that was supposed to have gone out at 8. Behind this on my desk top is a cover letter I’m in the middle of writing, a (thankfully) finished case analysis for class today, and a five page draft of a memoir that’s due in one hour and is definitely supposed to be seven pages.

Normally, I would be majorly beating myself about it, filled with anxiety about the standards I’m not meeting. In reality, the “standards” are just really ones I’ve set for myself – and I do think that it is important to set high standards for yourself. For me at least, that’s how I get places. Set a goal, reach it, set another. I’m the same way with my tasks everyday. Sometimes though, like this week, things are just a little too hectic and filled for me to get my hands on everything that needs to get done. Things slip through, panic ensues, and I always get it done before the world comes crashing down. [Read more…]

Editing the pictures of this cheesy english muffin bread is making me seriously wish I had some more of it right now.

I’ve been loving making breads recently (you saw my blueberry bagels a few weeks ago, right?) and I especially love it since I’ve discovered instant yeast. Instead of having to proof yeast, which I always stressed out about, you just stir it in with the flour and add your hot liquid. Voila. Stress free! [Read more…]

A game that celebrates American spirit, enthusiasm for whatever team you call your own, and the opportunity to be with friends, drink beer, and eat excessive amounts of great food.

While my team is officially out of the race to the Superbowl (c’mon Chargers, step it up this year!), I’m still majorly in it for the food. The best kind of Superbowl food is the kind that’s shareable, delicious, and typically covered with too much cheese. This Pepperoni Pizza Pull Apart Bread totally fits all of those criteria. This Chocolate Chip Challah is delicious, impressive, and perfect to serve with your Hannukah dinner or on Shabbat! It will disappear off the table.I still clearly remember the first time I made challah. It was probably one of my first, if not my first, experience making any sort of yeast bread. I couldn’t have been older than 7 or 8, and I still remember kneading the sticky dough and making a sticky, floury mess all over the kitchen as my sister and I attempted to craft the challah under the guidance of our Hebrew tutor.

I don’t remember how our challah tasted, or if it even ended up looking like a challah, but I do remember making it being so much fun. [Read more…]
